There was some improvement in the air quality in Delhi on Saturday morning and the weather is expected to clear today. Although strong winds have been blowing in the capital for the past couple of days, there has been no significant impact on the temperature. Meteorologists have predicted a significant drop in temperature from the first week of November, known as the “pink chill”.
In eastern India, remnants of Cyclone Dana caused heavy rains in coastal districts of West Bengal. Many parts of Kolkata and South Bengal have been receiving rain since late Thursday night, according to forecasts, heavy rain will continue till evening and then taper off.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the remnant depression from Severe Cyclone Dana has moved slightly westward and weakened into a well-defined low pressure area. The system is expected to subside further in the next 12 hours.
In Jharkhand, Cyclone Dana has resulted in light to moderate rainfall in many districts. An orange alert was declared in the Kolhan area and schools had to be closed on October 25 for safety reasons.
In Kerala, the IMD has issued an orange alert for several districts including Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Koikkod and Wayanad, expecting heavy rain till October 27. Other parts of the state may experience moderate rain with lightning and strong winds.
Residents of affected areas are advised to remain vigilant and keep an eye on weather updates as the residual effects of Hurricane Dana are still ongoing.
