Ingrediants

  • Yellow Moong Dal: 1 to 2 cups
  • Milk: 1 to 2 cups
  • Saffron: A pinch
  • Cardamom powder: ½ tsp

  • Ghee: 2 tbsp
  • Sugar: 1 cup

Prepare the dal: First wash the yellow moong bales well. After cleaning, soak in water for about 3 to 4 hours. After soaking, drain the water and place the beans in a sieve.

Grind the urad dal: Grind the soaked urad dal coarsely with the help of a mixer and keep it in a bowl.

Saffron Milk: Take some lukewarm milk in a separate bowl, add a pinch of saffron to it and mix well. Keep it aside for later use.

Cook dal: Heat ghee in a pan on medium flame. When it melts, add coarsely ground moong dal to it and stir fry continuously until golden brown. This should take about 25 to 30 minutes.

Add milk and cook: When the dal is browned well, add a cup of milk and a little water. Mix well and cook on medium flame for 7-8 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Sweeten the halwa: Next, add sugar, saffron milk and cardamom powder to the dal mixture. Mix everything well.

Final step: Cook for 5-7 minutes until the halwa thickens well. When it is cooked turn off the flame and garnish with almond flakes.
